Summer is in full swing (yay!) yet most of us are back at work (boo!), which means we need to work a little harder to find the time and the place to create amazing summery memories. We have picked out our top five must dos in the upper north so you can make the most of the sunshine when you have a free day.

Muriwai Beach Horse Treks reviewed by Jennifer G.

I have taken my kids twice to Kate and Hayley and their lovely horses. These are the most well looked after trekking horses in the universe and the staff are so kind and patient. I could not recommend them enough for beginners or otherwise! Not to mention the scenery which you will find nowhere else in the world.

The Oyster Inn reviewed by Ricci M.

I took another visit to the Oyster Inn. This time I actually ate oysters (despite being slightly anti the whole idea of them)! These were Stewart Island oysters, and cost $7 a pop but were well worth it, they were the biggest and best oysters I’ve ever tried. Oyster Inn is a must do on Waiheke, the whole place is so plush and cool you'll swear you're in the Hamptons.

Auckland Zoo reviewed by Ella I.

I won some money to go to the zoo and it was the perfect excuse to go in the midst of my beautiful summer break. Boyfriend and I went with another couple and it was a marvelous day, well worthwhile. My advise would be to make sure you do attend all possible animal encounters, as the zoo workers are fantastically educated and have a lot of fascinating things to share about their furry and flippered friends. Also, if you’re not a child, don’t go into the meerkat caves. I’m a short lady and even I was way too big for it.

Charlie's Gelato Garden reviewed by Emily S.

Charlies is the perfect place to stop off for a summer fix of ice cream when heading back from Tauwhranui, or nearby beaches. My personal favourite is the coconut gelato - just delicious. Make sure you build Charlie's into your next beach itinerary!

Silo Park reviewed by Grant T.

This summer, set aside some time to stroll along the viaduct to Silo Park. There are tens of restaurants to choose from and right now there's the night markets. I love to see what's showing at Silo Cinema, check out some of the goodies and gifts and of course grab a bite from one of the pop up eateries.
