In fact, the breakfast-lunch combo is something of a NZ tradition so why not make a morning of it and spoil Mum rotten with a tops eggs bene and a wicked flat white. There's so many great Mother's Day brunch spots up and down the country too choose from, which is why we've pooled together 10 of the best so that you can treat Mum in style. Passengers & Co reviewed by Maria R.

This Eating House and Bar produces some of the best Sunday brunch in Christchurch. Located near the airport, it may be bit of trek to get to, but it’s well worth it. Their all day brunch menu on Sundays features brioche French toast, smoked salmon with apple and dill and granola with figs all local honey. Bookings are recommended!

Loretta reviewed by Joe S.

I’ve been waiting for all the hype around this place to die down, so that maybe there are not so many people in Lorettas all the time. But it shows no signs of waning, mainly cause the menu is on point, seasonal and well put together. Their menu uses only the freshest produce, and not one person will be unaccounted for. From the classic eggs and bacon to more fanciful dishes, it all sounds mouth wateringly awesome! Highly advised brunching, I feel like this is probably the peoples favourite currently, but you should go and taste all the food for yourself and make up your own mind on this…

Maranui Surf Lifesaving Club Cafe reviewed by Belinda F.

Maranui make the best big veggie breakfast in town. And I have had quite a few breakfasts in town. I like the fact that they have guacamole, a homemade nutty pesto, baked potatoes, slow roasted tomatoes with balsamic vinegar to make them really tasty. So, some really nice extras that you don't get anywhere else. And it's really tasty!

Melrose House reviewed by Caroline C.

Arguably the best brekky in town. Gorgeous setting in the old house, great service and a delicious menu. Grandad’s Free Range Egg Omelette is my favourite but there is also Whole Baby Flounder or the very proper Tea & Toast. Great destination for a sunday morning to remember.

The Shack reviewed by Latesha R.

If Raglan were a mealtime, it’d be brunch. Soak up the laid-back vibes at the sunny Shack. Light and airy it’s the perfect place to wake up slowly. Sip down a velvety cappuccino, watch the world go by and munch on yummy organic kai, sourced locally when possible. My favourite is the bagel with avo, cream cheese and pesto… but try the Full N’ Proper if you’re hungry!

Sidetrack Cafe reviewed by Michele H.

I love this little cafe, tucked under the apartment towers on the Main Mount Beach. It’s been there for ages under the loving care of awesome barista and owner Petra-lee. It’s a great place to reward yourself after (or before) a walk around Mauao. Another spot where it’s worth fighting for an outdoor table.

Toru Cafe reviewed by Kylie B.

If you are seeking something a little different for breakfast that's infused with a whole lotta Kiwi flavour then step inside Ponsonby Central and track you way to Toru Cafe. This is where Auckland's hospos in the know go for their morning after fare and from their vast and exciting breakfast menu it's easy to see why. Starting with quinoa bircher and buffalo yoghurt then moving through to a Waikanae crab omelette and three types of eggs bene - with pork belly, with smoked snapper and with goats curd and spinach. Oh and the beetroot relish that comes with the bacon and eggs on turkish pide is simply out of this world!

Provenance Matua Valley reviewed by Evelyn E.

I love finding eateries that focus on organic, locally grown produce so was delighted to discover Provenance, which is elegant enough for a special occasion and set against a beautiful West Auckland backdrop complete with well-tended produce gardens. The food here is delicious and since the menu showcases their current garden crop you're guaranteed to get a fresh meal and time to unwind in a lovely location. I'm particularly fond of their wonderful zucchini flowers and the apple crumble is divine. Well worth the trip out west.

Takapuna Beach Cafe and Store reviewed by Luna L.

A visit to the ever-bustling Takapuna Beach Cafe is a must for anyone serious about brunch. On any given weekend you'll find it packed to the gills (both in the cafe and in the adjacent Store) and for good reason - the food is just that damn good. The wait for a table is made enjoyable by taking a stroll along the beach, and with the cafe's unique recall system - a plastic lobster that lights up and vibrates when your table is ready! A great brunch spot with classic cafe food kicked up a notch, sprawling views over the beach and a beautiful setting.
