There's nothing that beats the feeling after a long, hard working week of eating in on a Friday night in front of a good movie. And Indian takeaways always seem to hit the spot. Whether you are a fan of curry, tandoori or vegetarian options, it's one of the tastiest comfort cuisines around. So to make your Friday nights even more fuss-free, we've rounded up the five best Indian takeaways in Auckland. If you have a favourite local haunt that hasn't had a mention here, why not share your love for it on their Localist listing?

Jai Jalaram Khaman - Blockhouse Bay reviewed by Kylie B.

Living out West and with lots of friends who are vegetarians, this hidden gem in Blockhouse Bay has become a regular stop for me before a night of takeaways and wine with the girls. They honestly, hands-down do the best vegetarian curry in Auckland and their flat-bread filled with mashed, spiced potatoes is an incredible treat. I encourage you to tell all your vegetarian friends about this one because it’s an awesome place for vegetables.

Tandoori Hutt Halal Takeaways reviewed by Kylie B.

This is the definition of a Great Little Find! Tandoori Hutt is hands-down the best tandoori takeaway joint in the greater Auckland region. This hole-in-the-wall in Sandringham can be located at night by its illuminated green sign and once inside I guarantee your stomach will start rumbling and your mouth will begin to water because this is tandoori at its best. My fave is their crispy, spicy Tandoori chicken but the prawns are pretty darn good too! And don't forget the naan - buttery goodness! Get in my belly....

Tiffin Indian Cuisine reviewed by Kylie B.

I've loved it before but I'll keep on loving Tiffin because foodie friends in the know reckon this is THE place of the moment for Indian food, regardless of whether you are eating in or taking away. Buttery balls of puffed goodness, the naan is the best and fluffiest in all of Auckland. Tiffin is North Indian street food and the chefs here truly know how to create incredibly, authentic flavours. If you haven't tried it yet and you love Indian food, you haven't lived. Full stop.

Bombay Blues St Johns reviewed by Kylie B.

If you live in East Auckland, make sure head down to the best local Indian takeaway in the whole area. I love Bombay Blues because they have the convenience of ordering online yet nothing is sacrificed in quality. Their signature dish, the Paneer Aloo Tikka is honestly the most tasty I’ve tried anywhere in New Zealand. And I’m a sucker for a traditional samosa and Bombay Blues do a delightful version.

Satya South Indian Restaurant Great North Road reviewed by Kylie B.

Satya has three restaurants across Auckland but by far the most popular for takeaways is the Great North Rd branch of this fabulous homage to South Indian food. I love Satya’s takeaway meals because South Indian cuisine is much more more healthy (meaning less cream, less buttery) than its North Indian counterpart, which means it’s not a case of once on the lips, forever on the lips when you indulge in a weekly takeaway feast from here. If there’s only one dish you order, make it count with the chickpea, tamarind and yoghurt starters. Soooo good!
