Amazing prices and deals and great knowledgeable staff. Nate in the drums department is absolutely THE MAN! and he will take care of you for sure. Definitely worth a visit. They even offer lessons.

The legendary Kings Arms Tavern is one of the best places in New Zealand to see up and coming talent from both New Zealand and around the world. Great intimate setting with amazing acoustics, and a large outdoors area to cool off and take a breather.

The Powerstation has seen some legendary acts in its time. Every gig I've seen therehas blown me away! There is always plenty of space and a great atmosphere. Its close to some great bars to get ready for the show.

The Civic is the most stylish venue in Auckland, and probably all of New Zealand. The venue is stunning and provides a great view of the stage from any seat in the house. The acoustics are always incredible. I wish it was used more often!

The go-to venue for large international acts with loads of incredible artists playing the arena each year. Lots of bars and food options make a conformable night out. The best venue of its size in the country.

Some of the biggest concerts ever seen in New Zealand were at Mt Smart Stadium, including the now legendary Michael Jackson shows in '96. It always attracts big crowds and big atmospheres. Also home to the Big Day Out for 20 years it has produced some truly magic moments.

This is my absolute favourite location for live music. Such an intimate space - the array of couches surrounding the performance area give a really inviting and personal live music experience. Pretty much all of my life epiphanies have occured while listening to amazing live acts in the back room at The Wine Cellar.

A stable of live music in Auckland. I love the versatility of this venue - I’ve seen huge international acts here as well as really intimate local gigs. The outdoor beer garden is the perfect place to step away for a few moments to get amped up for the next act.

For years I’ve wanted there to be a bar that felt like a living room. Finally it has come to exist - with The Portland Public House! Not only is there a really casual friendly vibe here - but it’s the kind of living room where people are always jamming out. Perfect.

Great location. Heaps of space. I always have fun at Galatos.

Every time I walk past the Powerstation I am blown away by the awesome acts they have coming up. I went to see Peter Hook doing Joy Division songs with my Dad here. It was totally awesome. We had a ball.

I recently went to the Powerstation, where I have been going since I was a teenager. The best thing about the Powerstation is that wherever you stand you can see the act - even if you're a shorty! I also love that it's never oversold, even at a sold out gig. There are always plenty of spots to be found where you don't have to rub up against sweaty concert goers. 

Auckland has a great world class venue to be proud of now. I think its been a long time coming. 

Bring on more concerts at Western Springs. I might be  more partial as I live close by, but being that it’s a very central location , there are plenty of ways to get there. 

The room is full of history and you have never experienced a concert until you have been there. The acoustcs are magical

Whether you're in the Gods or the Stalls, the impressive Auckland Town Hall and it's equally impressive acoustics and organ can get the heart pumping for all audiophiles.

You're always in for a sonic treat at the Audio Foundation Hub. With regular gigs, a gallery, record shop, and listening lounge, the AF Hub is always worth a drop in when you're on K Rd. The people who work here are incredibly welcoming.

I think I saw my favourite show in Auckland here - twas a summery eve and Connan Mockasin played out in the courtyard - oh wowee. A cat walk on a line of tables that was organised, a stellar rendition of ‘Remember the Time’ by Michael Jackson, topped with a bunch of friendly, eager faces made this night rocket to the top of the list. Their weekly diverse shows are worth checking out.

This place is an entity for live shows. Lots of people write this place off because its know more so as a ‘student bar’, but it’s still one of the best places we have to watch bands get loose. Big fan of this place, and hope to keep it that way for some time.

In my opinion the best place to watch live music in Auckland. Depending on the band, you might need to get in quick for tickets - the place hosts some big international acts that would normally play in venues 3 or 4 times the size. Mark the sound engineer knows the room like he knows his mother - well - so you’re ears are treated. Don’t be fooled by the seedy old men out front of the sports bar side of this place, they’re friendly.

Probably the best part about this venue is the size - the international bands that play here are generally can’t sell enough tickets to play Vector Arena, but too popular to play The Kings Arms. So, I’ve been treated a butt load of times too some of my favourite artists in this intimate venue.

So cosy, so many amazing, diverse bands play here. Lose yourself in one of their couches to watch the show, and sip on their amazing craft ciders and beers. A little gem.

This venue is an Auckland institution. I have seen Beirut here, Amanda Palmer, The Dresden Dolls, The Mint Chicks and Akron Family - among others! The courtyard is looking lovely with it's new fence-work and fairy lights, the crowd area is roomy yet intimate - this is a good place.

I used to work at the Power Station and it was pretty much like working for Empire Records. Very '80s chic, but hosts indie powerhouses like Grimes and Modest Mouse!

GD is a fun place to drink tasty drinks and boogie on down to their hot rotation of DJs. Toasty in winter, cool in summer. Get Anthonie to make your drink if you can, he's great.

This is a good place to squeeze past a whole bunch of sexy looking ladies and fellas in order to grab a drink, have a smoke and dance the night away. You're so damn close to everyone, it's no wonder this seems to be a good place to meet your next romantic interest.

Indie. Dirty. Hip hop. D.O.C is the hipster capital of Auckland. Dance here in your bindis, crop tops, chokers and platforms. You'll feel like you're in costume for a '90s party but these DJs play the Jacksons and Destiny's Child all night long, which is uncomfotably enjoyable.

If you are looking for an elegant, beautiful funerals. Intimate care of the living and those who have passed. State of Grace are a bunch of wonderful women who know how to care, celebrate and grieve for those who have died.

Modern, New Zealand coffins that are eco friendly. Not one of those nasty PDF caskets. Greg Holdsworth, returned suddenly to New Zealand upon the death of his fatherin-law. Having returned to Auckland Greg and his wife, Leanne, came to grips with the body laid to rest in a coffin in the family home then noticed something just wasn’t right. While standing by the coffin Greg noticed the ‘metal’ handles weren’t cold and discovered they were, in fact, plastic made to look like metal. On closer inspection he discovered that the coffin wasn’t what it seemed either, it was MDF with a plastic woodgrain applied to the outside. Even the lining material was artificial. If the environmental aspects of this discovery wasn’t enough he was struck with a feeling that the values of the coffin in no way matched the values of the man. The coffin in the photo is from Return to Sender. Beautiful

Based in Jervois Rd, Herne Bay this my local florist. I saw their beautiful flowers for a neighbourhood friend who died. Elegant and considered and perfect for the person.

Fab Ukelele band to do a singalong with. Nothing like easing your sorrows with a song. The Nukes celebrate life, good times and remind us why we are all here.

Perfect place for an Auckland city funeral. The old church is now a hall so no problem using a celebrant. There are lots of beautiful spaces for people to meet and gather.

All music styles on the cheap! if its not there they can order it in - which is great for all you people out there who aren't so in to the mainstream! I could spend hours in this shop! I love it! Not to mention the huge range of electronics, cameras, TVs Stereos etc! Killer store!

Music store that has all kinds of music including the alternative not so mainstream! I love this! That you can find music like this in central North Shore! This is where I go for my local music fix!

Located just off Karangahape Road is the Dogs Bollix, one of the city's premier music venues. A friendly pub, it is renowned for its great atmosphere and outstanding pub food as well as its eclectic weekly line up. The venue features live music at least six nights a week, and you never know what you might find on any given night. 

1885 in the Britomart Precinct is one of the city’s slickest venues. Beautifully designed, it was a hot spot from the moment it opened its doors for a variety of reasons. It has a selection of DJs spinning an eclectic range of tunes most nights, as well as live music with a jazzy feel a few nights a week. The venue also has three distinct function spaces and a maximum capacity of five hundred, making it a great place to book for your next party or gig. 

The West Auckland equivalent of Vector Arena is Trusts Stadium, a larger venue that holds crowds of up to 5,000 with ease. Close to the North Western Motorway off ramp and the suburb of Henderson, it’s easy to reach and popular with musical and athletic events alike.

The Kings Arms in Newton is an Auckland live music icon, and still sees hundreds of punters packing out its bars on any given night of the week. The “KA” - as it is fondly known - is one of the oldest hotels in Auckland, and there are photographs of the building dating from 1880. After all of these years the sound’s still great and the beer’s still cheap, and a visit makes you feel like you're taking part in a little piece of history.

Vector Arena is definitely one of the city’s most popular big venues, with big names like Radiohead and Lady Gaga appearing on stage there to sold out crowds. A 12,000-seat arena for sports and entertainment events, it is conveniently located at Quay Park, super close to both public transport and Downtown Auckland’s central hub.
