Just off Church Road near the centre of Kaitaia lays Arnold park the home of rugby league in the Far North and the Northern Sword's rugby league team's home ground.
The Swords are the premier League team in Northland and represent the region in the 7 zone NZRL national competition against the likes of powerhouse teams like Auckland and Canterbury. Pop down to the park on a Saturday morning and if you're lucky you might catch a tense grudge match between the Swords and arch rivals Auckland.
Arnold Rae park is also the home of several junior senior and social rugby union and league clubs from all over Northland so there's always a game on to help pass the time on the weekends!
TIP: pop down the road to Sea Breeze Bakery in Taipa after the game. They do some of the meanest pies in Northland!

Close to the main streets of Kaitaia Arnold Rae Park is one of the best spots to stretch your legs. The massive expanse of flat green grass means it's a favourite place for the sports clubs and fitness fanatics. I love stopping off here on northern roadtrips and kicking a ball or running a few laps to break up the journey.
