As well as some top designers Aroha and Friends showcase local artists. The funky arty space run by Napier couple Rakai and Melaina Karaitiana has a main focus is on kiwiana and New-Zealand-made. The retail store, run by Melaina also masquerades as a design studio for artist and printmaker Rakai. Don’t miss a browse through the second-loved space in the corner. They stock some beautiful prints and hand crafted pieces and T-shirts and it’s just a walk-through to acclaimed café FG Smiths for a quick bite and coffee.
Family owned Aroha and Friends sell high-end designer labels, including Zambesi, Nom-D and Karen Walker. For men the look is the more casual AS Colour cotton range, which Aroha and Friends will print with your selected design. They have an extensive studio out the back and make art work and fabrics in-house. Selected work from local artists are on display and a “Brand New Second Hand” corner for customers to bring in their preloved clothing to sell, and use as credit on a new purchase.
