Seems weird to review an airport. If you're in Auckland and you want to fly out (why?) where else can you go? Choice of one. Nevertheless, Auckland Airport is worth praising. We have been consistently impressed, whether flying internationally, within NZ or picking up and dropping off visitors. The airport is clean, tidy and well appointed. Staff are friendly and welcoming and will always help you. There are shops a plenty and good quality food outlets and great coffee :). The new Novatel just outside departures is a 4.5 star award winner - a credit to Auckland, not just the airport. Parking is cheekily over-priced though, especially if you're only there for a short time to meet someone but if you're flying, use the excellent Aeroparks. We love coming to the airport. For any reason!
Been to a lot of airports around the world and they Auckland is one of the best. Im not sure about that, but its pretty good - its quick and efficent to work your way through and easy to pick people up - there is a range of food on offer as well as shopping and now a couple of hotels. Parking is extortion and a total rip , but i guess Taxi costs are even worse so what can you do .
A place to be happy and sad. Sad to see your loved ones leave you for a while, happy to see those rellies you hate leave faster! The renovations to the Intl airport are great, its much more streamlined to get in and out if you're dropping people off or parking to go to the arrival gate. There are many more cafes and restaurants for you if you're waiting around for a flight to land. The parking seems cheaper too, but i'm never there for too long. Good times :)
Couldn't find a listing for domestic so am popping mine here - We recently flew to and from Wellington with two small children and found the airports very easy to use - the self check-in was great and fast. I was compelled to write this review however because of the casualness of the check in staff when we were depositing our bag. It made me laugh but may have annoyed someone else. Firstly when we approched the conveyer belt the two women facilitating it were too busy chatting to each-other to even glance up until one of them spotted a VERY OLD and worn out oversized sticker that we should have removed before we got there. The she - fairly we thought - insisted that we weigh the bag. It came in bang-on weight which we knew it would so that was fine. Then the first woman promptly lost interest as my husband was manhandling the bag off the scales and wandered off - her colleague - through her chewing gum then told him to 'chuck it on now' and then wandered off herself. Hilarious - Kiwi charm at its best. The only other thing I would say is that if your small child is freaked by having to go through the beeping gates - don't expect sympathy or kind words from the people running them - from both directions we got quite abrupt treatment with the guy at the Wellington end telling him quite sharply to hurry up - which didn't help matters!
I had to take my Mother here on her way to Sydney. We got a great park almost opposite the Departures area. We checked her in with the new touch screen checkin system which was a breeze. She could even change her seat on it if she wished. Then we went upstairs to grab lunch. it has shrunk over the years moving the shops inside the departure area which is much more sensible really since you get anything moist or fluid confiscated if you buy it on the wrong side. But there was plenty of choice for eating options with your MacDonalds and Subway options or noodles or plain old cafe style, which is what we chose. A bap, a pie and a couple of coffees served by lovely staff made it a fine farewell. Auckland airport is now as good as any decent ones around the world!
