Some days I get up early and go for a walk. It's always tempting to ditch the whole thing and call into Bambina. Opens at 6.30 am and even then is full of locals in the know having the first coffee of the day and leaving doggy at the door.

Bambina is one of those places where you'd feel equally at ease on your own as with a group, and you do often seen regulars coming in solo for a flick through the newspapers and a strong coffee. The vibe is relaxed, the staff are lovely, and the menu is gourmet and a little bit different - great for those wishing to branch out from the usual Eggs Benedict.

My favourite here is the lime & chilli salmon with ginger, coriander and spinach - all served on a bed of noodles and super delish!

A good solid Ponsonby local, Bambina performs every time, the coffee is the stand out here.

Great coffee...great food...great service!!! My first stop on the way to work for a coffee.

For those days when Eggs Bene is just a little too much, the iconic Bistro Bambina on Ponsonby Road is my go to spot for some of the healthiest ways to kick off the day. Their bruschetta is always fresh and tasty and the breakfast salad a low carb feast for the taste buds. Great coffee is just an added extra!

Salad may sound like a weird option for breakfast, but on those days when you need something fresh - but still want those eggs - a breakfast salad is the way to go. Bambina do a great one (pictured), as do Rosehip cafe.

Not on the menu but yours for the asking

Fresh food and they serve quality food. You can always tell when you get terrible rubbery feta and the delicious creamy, salty kind. And that's what you get at Bambina. Fried capers with my grilled tuna salad and it was delicious. Their lamb rack salad was generous considering the price of that cut of meat pet kg! The coffee is consistently good, though once it was late in arriving so they didn't charge us for it. Always happy to head to Bambina

Bambina is one of those Ponsonby Rd classics that never lets you down. If you are after some chocolately decadence then their Mocha or Hot Chocolates cannot be surpassed with a whole Sante Whitakers bar used as the chocolate element! The Chicken Turkish Sandwich is also a winner - very delicious and not expensive!
