Cafe Paris - a name that immediately sets certain expectations. I imagined a small Parisian styled cafe: tucked away down an alley, with lots of little tables crammed in, packed with french food, amazing coffee, ladies with little dogs and men in berets drinking red wine at 10am. I was partially right. The cafe wasn't hidden away, in fact it was easy to find, in the middle of the main street of Howick. It was certainly crammed with little tables, and packed with people sitting at them. Initially I was worried we'd be waiting hours for a table, but luckily one table was free and we were immediately shown to it. There was a little bit of confusion to start with, because being shown to a seat implied there was table service, when we actually had to order at the counter. The atmosphere was bustling with tonnes (literally) of local art and nick-nacks. This isn't the place to go for a private conversation - but it was strangely acceptable, because it reminded me of Paris. Overall, we had a lovely breakfast. The atmosphere was quite unique and busy, offset against simple tasty food. Worth a try if you're in the area. Atmosphere: Cosy, but not overly private Food: Simple but tasty Coffee: Good Service: Friendly Parking: Easy on side street
Paris, city of love and the home of cordon bleu cooking. With a name like Café Paris, it’s not unreasonable to expect that the café is going to be French in theme. Not so. Café Paris is a busy, nay, thriving café in the centre of the Howick Village shops. We got there at half-past twelve and it was absolutely packed, inside and on the street outside. So much so that we had to go for a walk and come back 10 minutes later just to find a seat. Expecting something chic and ‘Frenchy’ in theme, I was surprised to find the café cluttered with distinctly English antique ephemera, and a menu featuring nary a French dish in sight. (Unless chicken tikka masala pot-pie is a French dish?) What I found instead was a bustling and obviously very popular suburban café featuring well-priced, generously sized meals in an eclectic range of styles in a friendly, albeit slightly cluttered environment which appears to be very popular with the locals.
Cafe Paris is the craziest, most eclectic little cafe! I love the ambience, the great range of food and very reasonable prices. Most cabinet food comes with salad. The food is waaay better than many 'chain' cafes have and tastes much more homemade, but it isn't as 'polished' as more upmarket cafes. Very nommy. PS - the toilet is out the back, you have to go through the kitchen. Just ask.
A very busy popular cafe, with some pavement tables. The food is cooked on site and is delicious, most served with generous salads. Many cakes are gluten free with interesting flavours like semolina with orange syrup and fig. Big range of herb teas and good coffee. Staff are busy but friendly and welcoming. Service is prompt.
Paris Cafe proved to be just what the doctor ordered on a cold rainy Saturday for a mid afternoon pick me up. The interior is very cosy with little tables and an assortment of chairs. Both fabric lined lounge chairs and wooden uprights. The cafe is decorated with an eclectic assortment of knick knacks and artwork which ensure there's something interesting to see no matter where your gaze comes to rest! The cabinet food all looked great, and the pecan tarts we chose were certainly tasty, combined with a well made mocha and long back it proved just the thing to give us some energy for the afternoon!
