Fantastic rural coastal location at the end of the Waterway Trail. I always have the sense of being transported back in time coming into Clifton with the historic farm buildings nearby. The café serves good meals and counter food and is licensed. There are views across the water toward Napier and when the surf is up you can hear it pounding and swirling across the pebble beach. Other times it can feel absolutely peaceful and serene.

Take advantage of the beautiful summer days and get on your bike or drive out to Clifton Café and dine alfresco on one of their delicious salad options – seafood, with lemon pepper squid and garlic prawns, Asian beef with coriander, mint and roasted cashew nuts, Tandoori chicken, or my favourite, the chicken Caesar.

This seaside eatery is in a quaint rural setting at the end of the Hawke’s Bay Landscapes Ride cycle trail and near Gannet Beach Adventures departure point. There are extensive views across Hawke Bay, a great menu and wine list and lots of inside seating should an easterly blow up. Walking the long pebbly beach is a great way to end the meal.
