Okeover Community Gardens sits near the UC campus in central Canterbury - bringing a rural, community vibe to the central city. The gardens provide a shared space for people to work together to grow produce, create relationships and learn new skills - this in turn promotes physical activity and gives access to locally grown fresh produce.

All of this culminates in the promotion of a community feel around Christchurch and encourages a culture of growing and sharing your own food with those in your community.

At it's most basic this is the perfect spot to come and get your hands dirty and enjoy the relaxation and social benefits of a bit outdoors work with like minded locals! So if you're after some relaxation, locally grown produce or just a neighbourly yarn - pop down and check it all out. Regular working times are between 1 pm and 5 pm on Fridays.

Get your hands dirty in the community gardens of the University of Canterbury. Learn about gardening and help out every Friday in this very inclusive environment. A favourite of mine because you get to take away the produce you harvest!
