Located in the Ruahine Forest Park, Coppermine Valley Creek Walk starts 15km from Woodville on Coppermine Road. The pleasant walk takes approximately 2 hours to complete, passing through lowland forest to an area fomerly used for copper mining. With a metre-wide gravel path, it is popular with local families eager to enjoy the great outdoors.

Things to see en-route include an abandoned copper mine, cave wetas, native trees and waterfalls. There is also a grassed picnic area, toilets and a campground at track junction.

A steeper track leads to the transmission tower at Whariti Peak.

This is a great walk if you are just building your fitness or want to go somewhere that doesn't take all day, the whole walk is around 2-3 hours return. Tramps are an awesome way to get active because you are out in nature getting fresh air and these hills will really work out your legs! It's one of my favourite places to go because it's a free activity and much more fun than going to the gym!
