Part of the Waitakere Ranges, Cornwallis is a popular, safe spot for family picnics and swimming. Be sure to visit the 200m long restored Cornwallis wharf, the last of the Manukau's 16 ferry wharves.

My hands-down favourite West Auckland beach. I love that there's grass, shade and toilets, and it's almost always empty during the week. The pohutukawa are huge, great for climbing, and stunning in December. There's foresty areas for kids to play in and even a cave if you can find it. It's a really brilliant beach to come to with very young children and me and my kids have spend many, many hours exploring here.

    Another family favorite but you have to get there early because sometimes it gets busy and crowded. It's not rough so if you are looking for waves then this is not the beach for you.

      A long spacious golden sand mild west Auckland beach! Great for the kids, together with a loooonnnnnggg wide stretch of mowed grass for cricket, frisbee, soccer touch, volleyball etc. Several changing rooms and loos and freshwater showers just off the beach. Tons of shade under the pohutakawas that strech along the miles of beach. Best 2 hours either side of high tide (just Google it).
