At only $5 entry, Craters of the Moon in Taupo is a sweet spot to spend a couple of hours seeing how active Taupo still is when it comes to volcanic activity. From mud pools to steaming craters, and sweeping shrub and desert like landscape, it’s one of those spots that shows just how unique NZ is.

If you're a geography nut, there's no doubt you'll love the Craters of the Moon. Not far from Taupo Town, this is a good afternoon trip especially when it's sunny. Take in a piece of history, while you absorb the incredible piece and quiet around. Amazing to see all the geothermal activity as well.

One of the best value geothermal walks around the Lake Taupo region. Steam geysers and boiling mud pools are all here - and much cheaper than the big attractions in Rotorua. There’s also an awesome mountain bike track here too.
