A friendly and inclusive environment with a focus on community - plus spectacular artwork and other facilities including a recording studio!

Every week, there is a new and fascinating art exhibition on display in this awesome little gallery in Devonport.

If I happen to be in Devonport I try to make time to stop by The Depot. The space is beautiful, they put on regular exhibitions and the people who work there are friendly. There's also a recording studio there  and the odd gig.

You might be mistaken for thinking this is just another set of galleries but you would be wrong. This place also sports a great online community radio station called jam radio, a recording studio (has housed bands like the checks and white birds and lemons), practice spaces, a magazine and a bunch of really fantastic supporters of the arts in Auckland. Alongside the gallery activities, they offer a course which I was a part of called PACE which basically gives artists of all genres access to training and development while they are on a benefit seeking employment in the arts. I wouldn’t have completed my album without the help of the staff there. The business and arts skills I learned were invaluable. They are currently working on a research project looking at presenting icons of the arts in New Zealand history. And of course the gallery is always displaying something to delight in and there is a real community atmosphere to what goes on there. If you support the arts it’s worth making the short ferry ride over to check it all out for yourself.
