Killer cronuts, yummy pies and great coffee will make it hard to visit the Fairlie Bakehouse in Canterbury just once. This local bakery is known for producing some of the best pies in New Zealand and as a result is pretty busy. In fact, Fairlie Bakehouse employ 20+ friendly, efficient staff because their pies are in such hot demand. Their huge range of pie flavours aren't your usual classic Kiwi flavours either with the bacon and salmon and the pork belly and apple (accompanied by obligatory crackling on top) proving to be local favourites. Well worth a stop on a South Island road trip.

Consistently awesome pies and beautiful baking. I used to live in Fairlie but moved South. Whenever anyone I know is coming through I ask them to grab a pork n Apple and a Salmon n Bacon .... and a custard square... nom nom nom.

    A steak and beer pie that I still drool over just remembering! Buttery, flakey pastry and savoury filling....delicious fresh cheesecake and great coffee. Got there 5 minutes before the rush, thank goodness, because the cabinets were cleared out in seconds. Nice clean tables and friendly staff. Gots to go back!!

      Fairlie Bakehouse in Fairlie is the best in New Zealand! People travelling around South Island stop in the place just to get the pie. Everytime we're on our way to Tekapo from Timaru, we always stop here to get the pie. They have really good pastries too!

        Bob R you are so right. Fairlie pies are the best in NZ. Have you tried the Salmon and Bacon. This small bakery has a staff of 20 to keep up with demand.

          The best piesin NZ are in Fairlie at The Bakehouse. The Pork Belly and Apple sauce with Crackling on top are to die for. The Cronuts are out of this world. We hade to make a special trip back there, twice.

            Locals in the know will tell you Fairlie Bakehouse produce some of the best pies in New Zealand and their signature pie is you have to try at least once in your lifetime. With the puffiest pastry and a filling of pork belly and apple it even comes with crackling on top. Their steak pie is also a killer.
