Hot tip: Go to Farro when you're looking for a seriously good sandwich. The cabinet offerings at this Grey Lynn gem are second to none and they are incredibly well-priced... pay no more than $7 for your lunch. My current fave is the margherita with buffalo mozzarella and basil. A great vegetarian option.
Sometimes it can be hard to get good quality meat after hours when your local butcher isn’t open and that’s when I’ll head to Farro Fresh to get a tasty organic, free-range cut. There’s lots of options from Kiwi farmers and you do get to know the meat’s origin so it is an excellent back-stop if you can’t visit your traditional corner store butcher because the pace of modern life gets in the way. I go to Farro in Grey Lynn because it’s on my way home from work but I also love the Constellation Drive store on the North Shore.
It may seem an unlikely place to go but if you are searching out a top-quality chocolate fix then you can’t go past the rich, tummy filling treat that is the chocolate gateaux you can buy at Farro Fresh. Someone we know said he loved the cake so much that he had to go back the next day and buy another one to repeat the divine experience. There’s also lots of amazing gourmet chocolate on the shelves too. I love coming for a visit and allowing my senses to take me away.
It may have put a little dent in my wallet at the time but working near Farro Fresh in Grey Lynn was the bees knees. Admittedly, I 'forgot' to pack lunch more often than not and I would always find myself aimlessly ogling the deli display for longer than necessary. When I'm there I usually pick a mix of the salads if it's good pickings - which is almost always, if you get in before the herds from the surrounding ad agencies - but if there's slim pickings the bagel is my go-to. Normally there's only a handful of bagel options but they are always creative, delicious and packed heavily with goodness. It's a top place for choice eats and you can always get in a nice appetiser if you remember to do the taster rounds on your way to the checkout.
