Fo Guang Shan New Zealand was established to propagate the ideals of Humanistic Buddhism as expounded by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, founder of Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order. In fact, so special is this property that there are only two Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temples in New Zealand - one in Auckland and the other in Christchurch. Both temples serve as places of worship and promote interfaith, education and cultural diversity. The temples also organise many events that foster harmony and respect between various faiths of New Zealand. Fo Guang Shan Temple is open to everyone from all religious backgrounds, cultures and ethnicities.

The Temple is also home to one of Auckland's favourite vegetarian cafes, called Waterdrop Vege Cafe. The traditional tea house to experience spiritual purity and enjoy fragrant tea and delicious vegetarian food. Open Tuesday to Sunday and public holidays from 10am - 4pm.

The cafe area can get busy, but the food is worth it. Honestly the best tofu experience I have ever had! And the teas.... YUM!!!!!

Beautiful architecture and landscaping! Must visit! :)

Awesome place to visit, beautiful and peaceful. Definitely check it out if you are in Auckland!

Immaculately presented gardens, set in a peaceful and tranquil surrounds. The classic and authentic looking Chinese architecture makes it hard to imagine you are still in New Zealand! Well worth a visit...

And SUCH a lovely photo... ;)

ive visited the temple a few times now and find this place to be beautiful peaceful. my last visit was buddhas birthday where there was great entertainment and a great range of vegetarian food stalls, its a perfect place for a peaceful afternoon with great tea rooms.

Beautiful temple, very welcoming and warm.  Tea house make the most wonderful vegetarian dishes and of course good tea.   The temple had an excellent event at the weekend to celebrate Buddha's birthday.

Pretty awsome place to improve one's qualities!

Fo Guang Shan Temple is quite a good place to go for a little outing. The temple is really beautiful, and there are often exhibitions hosted here. While the tea-house cafe may be strictly vegetarian, you wouldn't know it by the deliciousness of their food, and they even have a little gift shop for those who must browse everywhere. Makes for a good day out in my opinion.

I love the exterior view of this ornate temple, but interior tranquility and gardens are very special. Everyone is warmly welcomed and you are allowed to wander in the garden area and soak up the peace and tranquility. The festival days are vibrant and fun. Exhibitions like the embroidery one this year and well worth seeing. The cafe sells tasty vegetarian meals and their lemon tea is delicious.
