Freida Margolis is a rare and precious gem.

This bar has personality spilling out the doorway and flowing through the windows. It started life off as a historic butchery over 100 years ago before eccentric owner, Mike, took it over and turned it into the crazy, colourful, cosy, little bar it is now.

Anyone can jump on the piano and have a sing, or a dance. It's frequented by kiwi actors, musicians and classic Grey Lynn types. Making friends is encouraged, don't be shy - everyone has a story!

Come and visit this pocket of colour in Grey Lynn and all the characters within it.

What a place.

Such a gem of a place.

Cool little wine bar, characters aplenty. They have a piano playing which is very nice.

Nice little wine bar, characters aplenty, casual with a small but decent list of wine.

Mike is hilarious - and tinkles the ivories. Geoff is loveable. They treat you like long lost friends, remember your favourite tipple and what's been going on in your world. It all adds up to a really fantastic neighbourhood bar. The tapa list from Monterey next door is a winner and you will probably end up rolling there for dinner after a couple of wines. A great night out.

Awesomely friend staff. Great wine list. Loved the food selection (tho they were out of some menu items when we visited).

I love everything! Freidas is the coolest bar I've ever been into. The people are magic, the times are hilarious and the drinks delicious! Big love for this local Bar xxx

I know it opened about six months’ ago and that was when I made my first visit, but only know am I realising how much I love West Lynn bar Freida Margolis. It is as cosy and unpretentious as it gets and the wine list is thoughtful, eclectic and fun, while the snack menu for winter is small but delicious. Try the duck sliders with a glass of hearty Bordeaux - you won’t be disappointed.

… and if you time it just right you might get a little live piano entertainment.

Located in what used to be West Lyn organic butchers is Freida Margolis. The small space has a homely vibe and is the perfect atmosphere for conversation. The barman knew his beer and was the type of character who could spin a yarn no matter the subject. On top were some great craft bars and there was a large selection of spirits on offer. Recommended.
