Cheap sauna

Freyberg pool is such a unique place to swim...it is literally on the ocean, so you can pretend you're out amongst nature, without the freezing temperature, or the pollution. The facilities are always well maintained, and the sauna is amazing and always smells like a delicious essential oil.

There's nothing like swimming to work up the appetite – and fortunately Bernie's on the Bay, the food-and-coffee kiosk at Freyberg Pool, is right on hand. With smoothies, ice creams, coffee and a selection of cabinet food, you won't find a more convenient spot at which to carbo load after your dip – or at the midway point on your waterfront walk.

Sometimes you want a break from your regular gym – and it’s too cold to go it alone outside. In such a situation I head to Freyberg Pool & Fitness Centre – the perfect place to work out during the colder months, in part because it has a spa pool. Of course if you’re serious about getting a workout you could always go for a swim or a jog on the treadmills overlooking the Wellington waterfront.

Sometimes, when it’s wet and wild outside, it can pay to just go with it – and simply get wetter. I mean, if you’re already soaked from the ankles down and the neck up, why not go the whole hog? At least Freyberg Pool & Fitness Centre has a spa – the perfect thing for the colder months. Or you could go for a swim or a jog on the treadmills overlooking the Wellington waterfront.

Training for a triathlon? Freyberg pool is the place to do it. Overlooking the harbour it is a beautiful spot. Pity it gets so crowded and the "fast" lane is some what slow… 33m pool in length and $5.90 per session. Recommend buying a 12 trip ticket. Also small gym upstairs.

If your idea of a lazy Sunday includes some exercise, join the masses in walking along the waterfront to Freyberg Pool and Fitness Centre. Once you’ve worked up an appetite in the pool or at the gym, you can reward yourself with a bacon sandwich or smoothie from the adjoining Bernie’s on the Bay cafe. Be sure to say hello to its namesake, Wellington icon Bernie the Bernese mountain dog.

Olympic length swimming lanes, steamroom, sauna and spa, plus an on-site gym, and massage therapists! This place is great! Even better, before and after your swim you can walk around Oriental Bay! Such a good walk on a sunny day!

So Freyberg has a spa, a sauna and a steamroom for $4.80ea but there are deals if you want a swim too, check out the prices board above the counter as you go in. Excellent spa facilities, always clean and they play some chill out pop music so you can relax to some sounds when you're having a soak! My favourite hotpools in town.

If you're after some serious exercise with a touch of fun, head to Freyberg Pool on Oriental Parade. With a multitude of lanes (in a variety of speeds, to suit your mood), aquajogging, and ample pool accessories (think kick boards and pull buoys) you'll definitely be feeling the burn. After a big workout, treat yourself to the sauna, steam room, or spa pools-- the extra cost is worth how relaxed you'll feel afterward. Open 6 am - 9 pm daily, Freyberg has the flexibility of a gym with a little chlorine added.
