Gemma Mayes holds Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Auckland. Prior to commencing practice as a barrister sole, Gemma was a senior solicitor in Buddle Findlay’s national employment team. Gemma also previously practised as a solicitor at Kiely Thompson Caisley, a renowned boutique employment law firm. Gemma has prepared articles on a range of employment and immigration law topics, including for the NBR, CCH Employer’s Bulletin, and NZ Lawyer magazine. She regularly presents at conferences, seminars and workshops on a variety of employment-related issues (including for BrightStar, Conferenz, HRINZ and the Auckland District Law Society Inc). Gemma has also guest lectured for the University of Auckland’s Employment Law paper. Gemma served on the Auckland District Law Society Inc. Employment Law Committee from 2010 to 2016.
