Goblin Forest (also known as the Kamahi Walk) is located on the middle slopes of Mt Taranaki in the Egmont National Park. Starting at the end of Pembroke Road, there are a variety of walking tracks which begin here, but Goblin Forest is definitely one of the more popular options.

Consisting of mainly kamahi trees, the gnarled and twisted branches with intertwined trunks covered in thick moss look like something out of a fantasy movie and it is easy to imagine fairies, goblins, elves or hobbits making their home here.

Other local attractions include Wilkies Pools and Dawson Falls.

Goblin Forest has always held a special place in my heart since primary school, it’s a beautiful walk that is great to take the kids away from the city life and get them back to nature. It’s filled with old kamahi trees that have moss and ferns hanging down; it’s like you’re in a whole other world!

I swear this is the best place to go for great photos and an enchanting walk. The gnarly old trees are like no others around, and they’re covered in moss in their thousands. The circuit features rivers, bridges and pools along the way as well as some really nice mountain views. It’s an enjoyable and easy walk for kids, adults and the elderly and is definitely a memorable experience.
