Good Day is a great neighbourhood cafe in Orakei run by talented, veteran Auckland baristas Jacqui Crichton and Dan Shaw. Together they spent 10 years at popular Ponsonby cafe Dizengoff before moving to set up shop in the eastern suburbs. Good Day is a firm favourite with locals. Nestled in a small cluster of shops on Coates Ave, the Orakei cafe prides itself on serving up fresh, local and seasonal fare with filter or espresso Supreme coffee. With a menu of creative brunch ideas, a cabinet packed with pastries, sandwiches and sweet treats and some of the best soup in town, it's a great Auckland cafe to while away the hours and smell the flowers.
You see, it always feels like a good day at Good Day because plant life populates the cafe and whether you want to enjoy breakfast, dine in or grab a coffee and bagel to go, Jacqui and Dan will have you sorted.

I love Good Day in winter for its beautiful soups. Rich, delicious and homemade, the soups at this Orakei cafe are the perfect antidote to a winter's day. They also do a mean brew of Supreme coffee and are locals after my own heart, believing that it's important to "start with a coffee" every day.

Great coffee, yummy food, the best for miles around.

Great service, great food, and most importantly GREAT coffee!!!

There's just something about sardines on toast that make for the perfect winter breakfast and I've been delighted to discover that Good Day do this dish with a little chilli on top. It gives a kick to the sardines and the last time I popped by and enjoyed this meal, I left with a mile-wide smile. I just felt happy and well... good... inside. This cafe also does a mean cup of Supreme coffee and a great bacon butty - using bacon they've sourced from their local butcher in the same block of shops. Awesome!

This new kid on the block in Orakei is for people like me who love coffee. For me, a smooth, strong brew is worth travelling across town for, which is how I discovered Good Day. And what a good day it is that they are here! The cabinet was packed with pastries so sweet 'n' tasty I had to have two and I'm stoked that there's no pretense here. This is about good food and good coffee. Full stop. I'll be back for another good day soon.
