Wellington's got so many hair salons, it can be tempting to assume the grass is greener – and the hair more thick and shiny, on the other side – but I've never been unfaithful to Haight Ashbury. Between them, Damask (colour) and Sheldon (cut) know what suits my hair best, and I'm happy to leave it entirely in their hands once every three months. What I like best about this salon is the ambiance – it's truly a pleasure to spend time in here.
I’ve been going to Haight Ashbury Boutique Salon for five years now, and am always impressed by the care, thoughtfulness and good humour with which the stylists approach their work. The range of skills to be found in this salon are incredible (my personal picks are Damask for colour and Sheldon for cut) and I never leave dissatisfied. Damask does a great hair and make-up combo for $135, which saves you from faffing about with bobby pins and hair spray in the lead-up to your big night out or special occasion.
