Humbug Cafe has become a firm favourite with West Auckland locals and it's not hard to see why.

There are two separate areas in the cafe - one a child-friendly space with vintage toys and comfortable couches, and the other a large dining area featuring retro furnishings and quirky wall art.

A changing menu features organic and fair-trade brunch classics-with-a-twist (the French toast with butterscotch is a highlight), as well as a heaving cabinet full of delicious options mean that there's plenty to try here. Great Millers coffee too.

Great food made by refreshingly happy people, this cafe never disappoints. Humbug’s well crafted menu offers a twist on meal time favourites and the French toast with butterscotch sauce is top of my list. For the more adventurous palette I’d suggest listening out for the chef’s specials and don’t worry if you’re on the run because the food cabinets are always well stocked. With freshly baked desserts, superb coffee and an amazingly comfortable atmosphere it’s no surprise that this place is my go-to local.

There's not much more I need to say about breakfast at Humbug Cafe than free-range bacon, eggs and chicken. This is a cafe that knows foodies like me enjoy revelling in the knowledge of exactly where their ingredients come from. Their eggs bene is a straight-up classic, no fancy frills, just well poached eggs on salty, crispy bacon and drenched in amazing homemade hollandaise. And of course they also do the best coffee in the West (none other than legendary Millers) and so that's why they come out top of the pops for me.

Such yummy treats breakfast and a great place to go if you have kids! :) plus the added bonus of having my fav coffee…Mmmm Miller’s

The service, the quality of the food and the passion in which it's delivered. Gorgeous sun trap, parking is plentiful & the staff set this place apart. #cafelove

This is Auckland Hospitality personified - excellent food, atmosphere, coffee and super child friendly - couldn't wish for anything more in a cafe

I love that the staff are always on a happy buzz! I love that I can take my kids there and they are welcome! I LOVE that they have Millers coffee beans. I love the delicious food they serve up! :) #cafetab

A true gem of West Auckland, Humbug Cafe is a fave brunch spot for several good reasons. Coffee fiends will love the expertly made Miller's coffee that fans come from several suburbs away for. Brunch is a delight with the eggs benedict an ever popular choice and the cinnamon brioche a delicious treat. The interior is huge and cleverly designed to include a child friendly play area to keep the kids entertained. The relaxed environment and friendly staff make it such a great weekend experience you'll want to go every day of the week!

good, tasty and local when possible

Once a week after my drive from the coast - and before I hit the awful Auckland commuter traffic - I stop and treat myself at this little slice of heaven in West Auckland. And it’s all because their takeaway flat whites are so delicious, they feel like they’ve been made by the hands of angels. Sure, I drive past lots of cafes and could choose really anywhere between Piha and the city, but this is my fail-safe go-to place to get a good espresso coffee. The barista always gets the milk just right - creamy, dreamy and not too steamy - and the extraction is adrenaline-pumping strong. Coffee is my fuel for life and Humbug always delivers. Go there and indulge in their Millers blend. It’s so, so good!

It's nice to live just around the corner from a cafe where you can rely on great coffee and a choice of meals from the board or a daily choice of counter food, most of which is prepared on site. With a focus on local and organic produce (including one of my long standing favourites, the Mamata bakeries bagel), along with their eclectic setup with recycled furniture, the sustainability factor is a key to the overall vibe of Humbug. The location is ideal, filling the gap between the frankly overrated offerings up the hill in Titirangi, and the confusing lack of good cafe options in New Lynn's otherwise extensive dining circuit. Humbug is child friendly, but without being too offputting for the younger crowd, owner operated, and from time to time, you might spot the occasional figure from the local music scene working their day job in the kitchen - just like the good old days!
