Humbug Cafe has become a firm favourite with West Auckland locals and it's not hard to see why.

There are two separate areas in the cafe - one a child-friendly space with vintage toys and comfortable couches, and the other a large dining area featuring retro furnishings and quirky wall art.

A changing menu features organic and fair-trade brunch classics-with-a-twist (the French toast with butterscotch is a highlight), as well as a heaving cabinet full of delicious options mean that there's plenty to try here. Great Millers coffee too.

Great coffee and great service - a perfect start to the day.  I try to resist picking up a little something to go with the coffee, but when I do succumb to temptation it is always worth it.  Sunday breakfast is a treat too - I love the omlette with chorizo.

This cafe appeared suddenly and very quickly became a favourite. The staff are friendly and there are plenty of delicious food choices. Child friendly and with 2 separate areas, you would hardly know the littlies are there until they come peering through the doorway! Definitely a great place to go for coffee, a morning snack or a good meal.

This little nook is in a weird location, and it looks like it'd be very...blah..but when you step inside its like a whole other world! They've done wonders with the place and when you look out the window you really wouldn't know that you're on a busy road...all you can see is green bush! they have this vintage theme that I love, not to mention their food and service is fantastic! They do brilliant breakfasts, I love it!

We'd heard lots of good things about this cafe so decided it was time to give it a try.  It's right in the middle of a typical westie neighbourhood in a wee block of shops.  You probably wouldn't find it unless you were actually looking for it.  The food was really tasty and the service pretty good.  A wee bit pricey for some of the menu items, but the kids' menu was really reasonable.  Miss four had delicious berry pancakes for $6.  The adults had food from the menu and the cabinet, both good.  Coffee was good, the ginger latte worth a try, but very spicy.  None of the portions seemed to be very large, but tasty.  There is a kids area, but it wasn't particularly clean.  The toys were looking a bit aged and grubby.

One of the best out west. Millers coffee the best brew great food and service

Had lunch at Humbug yesterday and was highly impressed. Not quite sure why they were all dressed as pirates (international talk-like-a-pirate day is sept 19) but they provided us with great service, the drinks were good and the food excellent. There are 2 separate spaces in the cafe, plus outdoor seating and we seated ourselves in the large and well equipped kids area- its not strictly for kids, but there is a great selection of toys and books and its well away from the road. Price wise it sits about average with other cafes, but we loved their kids menu and you received quite large servings. Definitely keen to go back and sample more of their menu and well equipped cabinet.

Lovely, quaint cafe.  Loved the deco and atmosphere.  The menu and cabinet food looked incredible.  Would love to try it all at some point!  Staff were very friendly and helpful.  Only thing I could say slightly negative, is that I thought the prices were a little steep - other than that, a solid 4 stars!

I went to Humbug for the first time last sunday with a friend, I was pleasently surprised at the quality ingredients used - I had scrambled eggs on grainy toast with pork sausages which tasted great! and a pretty good hot chocolate too. My friend thought her meal was great also. As I now live just around the corner I will be a frequent visitor! Very child friendly too.

I have been introduced to Humbug and I fear for my waistline as I live so close by! The cute little Glen Eden cafe is a little slice of Western heaven! The cafe is very spacious but exceptionally busy, however was able to grab a table quickly enough (options to share on those larger style wooden tables). The menu is pretty much full of normal brunch/lunch fare but it's the cabinet of cakes that really got me! Such choice... I'm going to have to keep going back. I had the Vege Breakfast which was super filling AND delicious, followed by Banoffee Pie to take away. I'll be going back for more of the latter today. SCRUMPTIOUS!! Even if you're not a Westie, this cafe is more than worth the trip out this way. Can't recommend it highly enough!

Finally in an area which for many years buying a tinnie would have been easier than getting a decent coffee and breakfast we are spoilt with our new corner cafe!  The staff are young but pleasant, the coffee is very well made and the food is honest and generous...... And there is plenty of parking.  Bonus if you have kids as it is very child friendly (note that doesn't mean let them run wild).  I am almost hesitant to rave about this gem; I want to keep it to myself! This place is owned by a nice couple and they work bloody hard and they only seem to only have a day off when they close on Mondays.  Millers coffee served and the eggs and bacon are freerange. Check it out it is worth every cent.
