Amazing staff- so friendly came and had a long conversation with us. You don't get that service often or at all in New Zealand it definitely stood out to us! Delicious food and presentation and an overall great ambience. Definitely favourite restaurant I've eaten at ever.

Wonderful Brazilian live music on Saturday night!

We had a two course voucher to use here and the food was delicious! The entree of escondidinho was very tasty  and quite salty, but we're the type to always season with extra salt anyway. It was a nice stew of meat on top of cassava puree - similar to creamy potato puree.  The prime beef and garlic leek roast potato was delicious. The jus was fantastic and the portions are very generous. A good serving of seasonal veggies also.  Dessert was quite nice. A good creme caramel and a very robust and flavour some chocolate pudding. Generous portions and we weren't able to finish them.  Be interested in coming back to try the heart of palm salad!

Ipanema is a brazilian restaurant & bar. No words to describe this place but love, amazing service, good vibes and no doubts the BEST FOOD i've ever had in auckland! Congrats to ipanema team and lovely owners Ana Paula & Jeronimo

No idea how to pronounce the drinks but great cane sugar and lime numbers!!

Gorgeous food, music, cocktails and most off all, wonderful service. LOVE this place!

Friendly people. nice Brazilian food , artistic energy with a pinch of Samba and Bossa Nova.

We bought a voucher on grabone, and booked in a time. They were so busy with all the vouchers they sold we had to book in advance. The food was amazing.... authentic, tasty, something a bit different. We would most likely go back for the food. Service was really just OK which was a bit disappointing considering the food was so good. Just simple things you come to expect when you go out. The voucher was for tapas.... generally you share tapas, so having to ask for side plates and knives/forks was a but of  let down, then asking for water and asking for napkins.... as I say great good and we would go back but pick up on the service to make the experience amazing.

Brazilian eateries are few and far between in Auckland, so Ipanema is a welcome addition to the dining scene. Parking is surprisingly easy on the side streets around the corner (for dinner, anyway), and the big windows facing Ponsonby Road gives it an inviting feeling. The dining room is a beautiful, brightly lit room that's well-separated from the bar and dance areas, with high ceilings and plenty of space between the tables, making everything feel quite comfortable. Food-wise everything on the menu was interesting, with plenty of traditional Brazilian dishes that you wouldn't find anywhere else in Auckland. The stand out dishes were the crab starter, fish stew and pork belly, all amazingly delicious and very generously portioned. The scallop starter is flambed at the table, adding plenty of theatre, though could have done with a tad more seasoning probably. Another dramatic dish is the beef rump cap steak, which is served skewered on a huge metal rod and was by all accounts very delicious. Dessert-wise we couldn't resist ordering the chocolate bombom, however I would strongly advise against this unless you have a serious sweet tooth, this thing was so sweet it was a bit like eating sugar - apparently very authentic for Brazil, but probably a bit too sweet for NZ tastes! The spiced roasted pineapple seemed to be a good alternative though. Drinks-wise they have a special Ipanema beer on tap which is worth a try, and a decent wine list with mostly NZ but some Brazilian offerings. Being in a Brazilian restaurant I couldn't resist ordering a caipirinha, though disappointingly this was made with lemons instead of limes - I guess the latter are a bit too expensive! Still tasted good though. But what really stands out about this place is the warm, friendly service - from the time I rang to book to when we were paying at the till, the Brazilian staff went out of their way to make you happy. Our waitress put a lot of effort into recommending different dishes, explaining where in Brazil each part was from, and was attentive without being annoying.  They also have a tapas style menu on the bar side, and a large dance floor for those who are so inclined. Overall, highly recommended and very much worth a visit - and don't forget to order the crab starter!
