I recently returned to Jalapenos for the first time in a few months. i used to work in town so I would go there quite a lot to enjoy a few tacos or a quesadilla. When I walked in my first thought was "what happened to the staff!" It used to be staffed by a group of great mexican people who would talk about the food in great detail. Now I was served by a surly man who didn't seem too interested in his job, which can be fair enough. I got the three tacos deal for ten dollars and boy was I underwhelmed. The amount of filling could have fit onto a large tablespoon, and the tacos themselves were miniscule. I left feeling disapointed, especially as the sign out the front had said that fish tacos were included - yet I was told otherwise once I got inside. Hopefully they can pick up their game because there are a lot of mexican places popping up around Auckland and if they continue to provide such service there is only one way to go - down, down, south of the border.
I had heard about this place through a friend and thought I would give it a try. The setting and atmosphere is really awesome and vibrant. We ordered chicken burritos. They were packed with ingredients and tasted very fresh, however the chicken was on the cold side. The sauce wasn't that great either and smelt a bit naff. I might give this place another try but try one of the beef dishes instead. The staff were warm and friendly and helpful.
