If you love the pretty postcards of New Zealand, you can enjoy the picturesque views in the flesh along the Karikari Peninsula, making it a must for any roadtrip or visit to the North.

Rich with history, the Karikari Peninsula was the the landing of the wake Waipapa, captained by Kaiwhetu and Wairere. The highest point, Puwheke ("octopus" for its octopus head like shape), offers stunning views of the entire peninsula, marking it as an important vantage point to historical Maori and continuing to be of great significance to the iwi, Ngati Kahu.

The distinct land mass also has a variety of activities, from vineyard dates to hunting and tramping along historical walkways and scenic routes, to simply lazing around on the beaches, where the crystal clear waters tempt you for a swim.

If you fall in love with the view, try camping it out or hiring any of the numerous holiday homes, especially popular in Maitai Bay.

This place looks just like a postcard, the white sandy beaches are so beautiful and it's a great place for camping/tramping because the scenery is 10/10. A great little detour out of Kaitaia, it's a fun little detour if you're on the way back from Cape Reinga, since the drive from there is only about 40 minutes. Seriously a must-visit, the views will take your breath away!
