They have great stalls with homemade candles, knitting, produce as well as fast food & animals.  Great for the kids, something for all types at this market.

After seeing the Kumeu Country Market advertised, I decided it was worth taking my parents there to sample some good local produce, and peruse the local crafts. They were visiting NZ for the first time from the UK and thoroughly enjoy their food and wine. Given the Kumeu location, we expected fresh fruit, local cheeses, homemade jams, wines, wooden crafts and perhaps some locally produced cider. Arriving there, we parked up with hundreds of other cars in a field; a little muddy but no problems. We had my daughter in her pushchair, and were pleased to find it was all pushchair (and thus wheelchair) accessible. The variety of stalls was not quite as we had expected. Along with the expected local produce, we also found there to be a lot of tacky commercial stalls - neither local nor country oriented... burger vans, live 'infomercial' type commentry for some tool or other, many an oriental food stall etc. However there are some gems to be found amongst it all. We sampled (and purchased) some beautiful cheeses, some venison salami sticks (not locally produced, however), some hand-knitted wool booties for my little one for only $5, and a dip to take home for that night's pre-BBQ snack. While the stalls were plentiful in number and the busy, bustling location gave good ambience, I would have liked to have seen more truly local stalls; breads, ciders, etc. I believe it is important to support small local businesses, and had this been more of a farmers'/craft market I think people would be more inclined to make the drive out West. Overall, however, it was a nice family outing but not one that I am inclined to attend on a regular basis.
