We enjoyed a pleasant picnic at Lake Ferry. It's an interesting tidal estuary where the sand dunes meet the sea and a great example of this wild part of the region. The fish and chips from the Lake Ferry Hotel are a great substitute if you can't catch something yourself.

Both my husband and I grew up fishing with our dad's and it's a hobby we love sharing as a family with our daughter. This is a great place for the family to fish and pretty reliable that you will catch something! Nothing better than fresh fish you caught yourself!

A day out at Lake Ferry can be pretty fun for families or serious anglers, whether or not you get lucky. Park up with a picnic chair and enjoy some lunch while you wait to catch your dinner. It’s well known for its Kahawai and Red Cod fishing all year round, as well as Moki and Snapper. It’s also good for whitebait, during whitebait season, when everyone comes out to have a go with their nets.
