For a bit of a fancy fish and chip dinner, head to Lake Ferry and dine out on the deck, overlooking the lake. They have a great seafood menu with whitebait fritters, paua fritters and pan-fried flounder. The fish and chips are pretty well known so try it at least once.

Take a scenic drive through Wairarapa checking out what plants are coming up for spring and end up at the south coast having a drink at the Lake Ferry restaurant and pub. Overlooking the lake, relax with a local wine or beer in the evening sun, a luxury after long dark winter days.

Have a fish and chip meal at this restaurant on the shores of Lake Onoke with beautiful views of the Rimutaka Range and the South Island over Palliser Bay. This historical hotel serves up a superb seafood menu like whitebait fritters, paua fritters, and fresh fish from the locals and chips. There’s also pies, buffalo wings, lasagne and other comforting winter food and a full bar so you can sit outside in the outdoor seating area and take in the picturesque views.
