This special gig venue is one for the books! Leigh Sawmill is ALWAYS worth the trip - on arrival you are greeted as a long lost friend by the staff (and often the artists). The artists are among the New Zealand greats, the beers brewed on site are all time and the pizzas are arguably one the best by-the-slice deal you can find and are served all night - the Marguerita has haloumi on it! Trouble finding a sober driver? No wukkas! There is an abundance of bunk rooms/beds available, then you can have brekky at the cafe in the morning. A number of sweet swimming spots in the area to wash the dust off on Sunday morning - Warkworth Cement Works deserves a special mention

Leigh sawmill cafe is an absolute gem! Great food - great beer - great music and an even greater atmosphere. A must stop after a day at Pakiri or Goat island!

A visit to Leigh Sawmill Cafe is always a pleasure and never a chore because this place is all about live music and excellent local beer. The staff are friendly and welcoming and I can never resist ordering a pizza because they are so good. They also do them to go.

There's so much right about the Leigh Sawmill Cafe and brewery that I don't know where to start. The setting is awesome - a quiet beachy spot in Leigh just north of Auckland and the venue itself is pretty amazing to. You can't beat the vibes here in summer as everyone lounges around on the deck and kicks back on the lawns surrounding the cafe, drinking good beer and soaking up the sun, noses pink and smiles wide. The food here includes some pretty amazing pizzas which have to be tasted to be believed. All that aside what really sets it apart is the beer. Sweet, sweet fresh poured, brewed on site, delicious, kiwi beer. Sawmill has been cranking this stuff out for a while and it's some of the very best in New Zealand. If you're after a winter warmer or something a little different - try the Sawmill Doctor, a dark lager with roasty coffee and chocolate flavours which is sure to put a smile on your face.

I take that back - Leigh Sawmill gives Brauhaus Frings a run for its money! As well as drawing large crowds for their live music Leigh Sawmill is making a big name for its brews. You can sample their range - from ales exploding with fruitiness to crisp, lemony lagers - and then tour the brewery to see where the magic happens.

A comfortable, welcoming place famous for its good vibes, good times and even better beers, Leigh Sawmill is simply awesome, no matter which season you visit. Their wine and food list supports local producers where possible and their signature pizzas have been the talk of the town for an impressive amount of time. Note: If you’ve had one too many of their brewed-on-site beers then there’s accommodation availble too - book ahead!

Labour weekend in particular is the time to be there if you’re after entertainment/a boogie after your long lunch, but there’s generally gigs every weekend through the summer. Friendly stafgf and surrounds

Leigh is a great trip from Auckland on a summer day. Make sure you stop in at the Sawmill Cafe to grab a casual pizza, chips and of course a beer sampler. Their entire range is really good but the Wheat Beer is crisp and unique and the Pilsner is Gold medal winning! Once you’ve picked your favourite beer, step outside to the small building next door and fill your Flagon/Growler (or purchase one onsite) at the brewery - its always fresh and tastey!

What's a trip to Matakana without stopping by Leigh Sawmill? Grab a pizza for dinner and a round or two of their local brew to wash it down, and catch a gig while you're there. Perfect.
