This local icon is well known for a good reason. The idyllic views over the crystal blue harbour, the impeccably prepared fush and chups or the old school chilled feel of the place add up to make the Maungonui Fish Shop one of the best in the country. A must visit if you're ever up in the beautiful Far North!
Range and quality are two things Mangonui Fish Shop aces. They have a catch that encompasses hapuku, bluenose, gemfish and other firm-fleshed deep water species. All are caught fresh in the morning and you can either buy them as they are or get the cooked in a light crunchy batter. They also have a delicious range of nibbly things like crab salad, shrimps in seafood sauce and pottles of mussels and oysters - yum yum yum!
These guys are iconic, and for good reason too. Their chips are golden brown and crunchy, their fish is not too heavily battered and always fresh. It’s our must-do when we’re up Mangonui ways, infact it wouldn’t be a trip up to this gorgeous spot without the perfect fix of fish and chips from Mangonui Fish Shop!
I know you think you’ve heard it all before, but no baloney, this shop really does live up to the hype ‘some of the best fish and chips you’ll find!’ You’d be hard pressed to find a more idyllic location to merrily munch your dinner or lunch, with the building sitting on the wharf over the pristine waters of the Mangonui Harbour. If you’re cruising the beautiful state highway 10 through Northland, do yourself a favour and indulge in this establishments take on the much loved Kiwi cuisine.
