Renowned local restaurateur Tim Tohill has shifted over to the west side of town opening up this stylish wee cafe in Ponsonby's old fire station. Mary's isn't trying to do anything to off the wall but rather prepare simple cafe food exactly the right way - think free range eggs on sourdough, home made muesli and delicious barista-made coffees.

If you are after something a little out there, Mary's has you covered with menu options like their kale salad or a sticky black rice pudding that are delicious and just a little different. Either way if you're after a relaxed sitdown lunch or just a quick coffee in Ponsonby pop in to Mary's and see what all the fuss is about.

The brunch has a great atmosphere. The blue cheese and bacon was good and you can sit outside in the courtyard.

If, like me, you’re always on the hunt for the perfect mountain of scrambled eggs don’t miss the generous serving at Mary’s. I went with a side of avo too (my fave) and the eggs were light, fluffy and beautifully presented. Love tat this awesome Auckland cafe is in my local.

I just had my first Mary's experience - and it was awesome! The array of foods in the cabinets and on the counter, left me with too many options, I wanted everything. I settled on a chilli cheese scone and flat white. I was served by the loveliest lady, who was particularly patient with me and my indecisiveness and the service was efficient and fast. The coffee was one of the best I've ever had, it was hot and not burnt! and the chilli cheese scone was amazing! The flavours were a great combination and I'll definitelty be back for more.

Amazing food every time!

Great service, great coffee and great food.

Dropped in for a morning coffee fix on the way to work. Was impressed with the look of the place, and the meals coming out of the kitchen looked phenomenal. Coffee was choice, tasty and super strong just like I like it. I also found out afterwards that the super friendly fellow who served me was Tim Tohill the owner/operator. What a legend!

Another triumph of a meal at one of the great little cafes in Auckland, Mary’s. A friend was visiting from New York with her 18-month-old in tow so we wanted to go somewhere that was kid-friendly and served up excellent local food. I opted for the avocado bruschetta and it was piquant thanks to the squeeze of lemon in both the bruschetta and the hollandaise smothered over perfectly poached free-range eggs.

Mary's is all about the location (as well as the top-notch coffees it serves up!). Situated in the iconic Ponsonby Fire Station, it used to be home to the Japanese restaurant Soto but now it's playing host to a very different venture. Mary's is a classic cafe that does cafe classics wonderfully well. I kinda feel pretty lucky that they are right in the heart of my neighbourhood! The coffee is Allpress, the eggs are free-range and, for a health nut like me, the kale salad is a lunch break winner. There's so much magic at Mary's I urge everyone to try it for themselves.
