Matekai Park in Oakura was established in 1980. Subsequent land was then purchased to create a six and a half hectare area which provides a popular link between Oakura’s shopping village and the beach.

There are plenty of opportunities for walking with a perimeter walking track around a large wetland area, along with three grass paths with rustic bridges that cross the wetland between the upper and lower tracks.

Come and use the seats and clearings to make the most of the beautiful views and native trees such as puriri, karaka titoki, kahikatea, rimu and others.
