Mayward Homestead is a beautiful 20 acre country garden created and maintained by former school teachers Judy and John Mahar. Having purchased a small plant shop in Taupo which they later expanded into a garden centre and florist, they move to Tauranga in 2004 and went about transforming a piece of cold, damp land into their magnificent gardens.

Featuring a vast array of plantings including hostas, irises, rhododendrons, maples, azaleas and azalea mollises, there are also a number of ponds, areas of native bush, a walkway running along the banks of a small stream, a large lawn area, rustic chicken house and a venue room suitable for up to 40 guests.

The gardens are open by appointment only and cost $8 per person of $5 per person for groups larger than 10.

This garden satisfies everyone; with traditional aspects and also a great native bush section. They also have water galore with ponds and a natural stream. The wrought iron pagoda is spectacular too.
