Merlot on O’Connell Street in the CBD serves up a great hearty red - naturally - but also has one of the best lunch menus in the area when you are in the mood for something warm and hearty. My pick is the lunch special menu, which gives you around six yummy options, all priced at $20.00. The Mini Ploughman’s lunch with chicken terrine, cheese and pickles comes highly recommended, with the next best option being the Scotch fillet with warm roasted vegetable salad. Delicious.

I note that the listing from the owner gives the menu so all I can sy is it is wonderful . I always prefer back street restuarants , I like them on rainy nights with the car lights going past , and people dashing by in the rain just like in the places I frequent overseas . Merlot is just one of the best . High5 Merlot . High five from the Auckland Campervan Association .

What a lovely place for lunch. The place was full and I can see why. We had the special Business Lunch which was a Main/Wine/Coffee and a chocolate Truffle for $27.50. I choose the pasta of the day which was a chicken and three cheese pasta with rocket. O my god is was amazing. Best pasta I have had. You could tell it was made fresh that day. It just melted in your mouth. All washed down with a good Matakana wine. The only down point if there had to be one was we were pushed for time so did not get time for the coffee. Maybe next time I would make a point of letting them know we only had an hour.
