Mission Bay

Have come here many times with family and friends. This is not really a beach. There is a great walkway around the coast with good seats and shade from trees with superb views. Big grass green areas with a gorgeous fountain centre piece. Very close to the shops. Some sand and water action available. Very much Worth a look.

Mission Bay, It's a great place for a lovely walk along the waterfront.  The fountain is an Auckland icon and our toddlers and many other children (and adults) have enjoyed a splash on a warm sunny day in its waters.  Luckily, they seem to keep the water well treated, so I assume it's pretty much the same as swimming in a pool.  The playground here is great, they upgraded it a few years ago and it's a popular spot.  The white sand which they have brought in makes pretty good sandcastles.  The beach is okay for swimming, but definitely mud flats not far out.  Very popular on a sunny day, be prepared to queue in traffic just to get here during the weekends.

Mission Bay has so much to offer with a large range of shops accross the road to get a meal or a snack while you are at the beach. The playground is really challenging but fun and the beach is beautiful and flat. It is nice to walk along but not the best swimming beach. The long pathways make it a beautiful bike ride or roller blade along the waters edge and you can hire them at the beach. A fantastic day out for two or a family fun day. Parking can be difficult at times though
