With a focus on Wellingtons social, cultural and maritime history, Wellington’s museum of city and sea is a fantastic place to learn more about the specific history of the city you are in. With exhibitions on Maori myths and legends, Wellington life and the 1968 Wahine ferry disaster, it’s a great place to really get to know Wellingtons past.

    The Museum of City & Sea is a great way to wile away a couple of hours for families with older children. Learn about the history of Wellington and its surrounds in an interactive, engaging space. The ‘historic port’ display is especially impressive.

      One of the city’s truest museums, City & Sea celebrates Wellington’s maritime history from the historic Bond Store on the waterfront. Check out Plimmer’s Ark or watch a documentary of the Wahine Disaster. Voted one of the world’s top fifty museums this year by Britain’s The Times.
