Learn To Swim

Northern Arena has four purpose built swimming pools which house NZ’s fastest growing learn to swim school.  Northern Arena has baby swimming lessons through to adult swimming lessons, giving everyone on the North Shore, Auckland the opportunity to learn how to swim.

Learning How to Swim and our Swim School

Learning how to swim and survive is a key life skill everyone should invest in for themselves, their children and their grandchildren.  Not only should every person be able to swim confidently but they should also be confident and able to save the person they are swimming with. As a nation surrounded by water, particularly in Auckland we love swimming, fishing, boating and we are surrounded by rivers, lakes, tidal waters, home pools and more water, which is why learning to swim should be considered as important as reading and writing.

Our Swimming Lessons

Swimming lessons at Northern Arena enhance enjoyment and confidence in the water and are specifically designed for our students’ development and progression.  Our 4 purpose built indoor swimming pools aid swimmers progression and complement our swimming classes.  All learn to swim, swimming lessons are taught from the water by highly trained and accomplished swimming instructors and set by ability rather than by age.  Baby swimming lessons , adult swimming classes and private swimming lessons are the only exception as they have their own progressive swimming model.  All swimming class sizes are kept small for better tuition and more swimming time for the students and our progression model allows students to move to the next level as soon as they are ready.  The Northern Arena swimming classes run during school term time and range in duration from 30 minutes to 1 hour and our swim classes booking system is designed to make life as easy as possible for members of our swim school meaning you never lose your space.

Our Swim Instructors

Northern Arena swim instructors are highly trained, accomplished and passionate about swimming and providing life skills.  Our swim teachers have swimming in their blood.  Mark Saunders, Director of Swimming, has been Manager of Beijing Olympic, Manchester and Melbourne Commonwealth Games New Zealand Swim Teams and has been awarded Master Swim teacher.  We also have Olympians, World Champions, Commonwealth Games medallists and a number of New Zealand epresentative swimmers as teachers.  These include, Dean Kent, three time Olympian, Commonwealth Games silver medallist and Swim Teacher of the Year 2012 (NZSCTA).  Dean is joined by Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, Hayley Palmer and Sarah Thomas (nee Hardcastle) an Olympic silver and bronze medallist, double gold Commonwealth medallist and World Champion.  Unrivalled in their expertise our swim teachers are regularly up-skilled enabling them to deliver the most up to date techniques and a high level of teaching.
