This 9 km long cycle route connecting Waterview to Te Atatu and offers a direct and pleasant route as well as scenic views of Auckland city and it's waterways. The cycleway provides easy access for cyclists to several popular centres from Auckland Zoo, to MOTAT to Western Springs Stadium.

If you have an interest in cycling for fitness, but don't want to be on the road with traffic, the purpose built Northwestern Cycleway is a great option. The more experienced can tackle the whole track which can start at either Henderson or Newton(just by the motorway on ramp) which takes about 45 - 60 min to complete. I am a novice so the full ride took me just on an hour but you can hop on and off the track at any point along the way. The ride takes you past Kingsland, the green stretches of the Western Springs golf course, the picturesque Waterview, alongside the mangroves at Te Atatu before ending at Central Park Drive in Henderson. There aren't too many hilly bits but enough to get the blood pumping and on a nice day the view over the Waitemata Harbour is stunning.
