Ohau Point is located 25 minutes drive North of Kaikoura off State Highway 1. The area is hugely popular with tourists due to the large number of magnificent fur seals which can be easily viewed from the roadside carpark.

From a second parking spot further north, visitors can acess the Ohau Waterfall Walk. Taking you to a pool and waterfall with more opportunities to get up close to the seal colony, there are often over 200 baby seals sighted playing happily in the pool and along the stream.

Located on the coast about 25km north of Kaikoura - in winter the Ohau Seal Colony is the place to see baby seals frolicking in the waterfall while their parents are off fishing for dinner. Park on the main highway and walk about 10 minutes in to the pool and waterfall. Very cute!

Discover one of the largest breeding colonies for seals in NZ at the Ohau Point Seal Colony. Walk right up close and see these beautiful creatures or keep your distance and instead explore the amazing fauna and flora of the area.
