This restaurant has one of the best views in Auckland - 360 degrees panoramic view in fact, as it sits high up on Sky Tower in the Sky City complex, which is the pefect setting for some high tea (or afternoon tea) on a lazy weekend. To be completely honest and blunt though, the food isn't amazing - you do get a selection of premium tea (or coffee if you prefer) although it's all from a pack which one can buy from a supermarket or fancier shops like Farro or Nosh, and while the food comes nicely presented on a 3-tier cake platter: scones, various cakes/slices, finger sandwiches, quiches, it's the same quality as a good bakery - that is to say it's good, but not great. Perhaps I am nit-picking here. Maybe I was expecting house-blended whole tea leaves, and perhaps I am expecting the food to be of fine-dining quality with something different to what one would expect. The expectations were high, no doubt becase you are sitting sky-high overlooking Auckland and with such a view, one would expect the food to match. Overall, the food is good, the wait-staff and service attentive and you do feel looked after, and at the end of the day, the 360 degree view overlooking Auckland will clear your minds of any unresonable expectations about the food. I have came here several times now since they started the high tea service, with friends who haven't been up the Sky Tower, or visiting from out of town, and they all enjoyed the high tea very much. I will even say that it's excellent value for money, as of writing this rave/review (02/2012), it is $30 per person for the high tea including admission onto the main observation deck. Considering that it cost $25 for just a general pass up to the main deck, spending an extra $5 is a no brainer.
Firstly let me say the food is amazing, I had the vegetarian pasta and it was awesome but my friends beef was some of the best I’ve ever had but the service kind of let it down, no water at the table, no one came to clear our table and they were out of a few wines etc. They forgot what we ordered and then were late with our meals. We got a discount but they said they would ring us to discuss but didn’t. Don’t think I’ll be going back
Had dinner up at Orbit Restaurant tonight and the views as always were fantastic. The food was great. The only thing that we have to say bad about it was that the main came out too fast after the entree and then dessert followed pretty quick to, I personally like to let my food settle a bit before getting the next round. But that was it. I was happy with the friendly service, the food as I said was great and the views....well you know what I am talking about if you have been before
