Otago Harbour is the natural harbour of Dunedin, New Zealand, consisting of a long, much-indented stretch of generally navigable water separating the Otago Peninsula from the mainland. They join at its southwest end, 21 km from the harbour mouth.

Since thousands of quinnat salmon smolt were released into a river near Dunedin in 1985, big salmon have been caught from the wharves in Otago Harbour. The Otago salmon fishery is restocked with smolt each year by the Otago Branch of the New Zealand Salmon Anglers Association as it is not completely self-sustaining.

Since 1985 the Otago Harbour has been a great fishing spot. This is because almost 30 years ago thousands of quinnat salmon smolt were released into a river near Dunedin. Which means great fishing for us in 2014/2015! Head along with your rod and packed lunch during your summer holidays.
