karamea domain camping ground run by the local school , on the west coast of the south Island

PS 41.248723S 172.11693E the West Coast of the South Island at Karamea just west of the township of Karamea in Waverly Street .
Karamea is 98 kilometers North of Westport , the town is on the banks of the Karamea river and on the South Western edge of the Kahurangi National Park .
The road is no exit at its Northern end . There is a Doc camping ground at Kohaihai 16 kilometers north of Karamea but the last few kilometers to the campsite is unsealed , the site is at the mouth of the Kohaihai River , this is the starting point of the Heaphy Track .

So this is proof that schools can be come involved in running camping areas and camp grounds .
North of karamia some 16 kilometers North is the Kohaihai River mouth on the west coast and the Doc camping ground , the last few kilometers to this camping ground is unsealed . The camp is dog friendly ,has toilets and fresh water . It is at this point that the great Heaphy Track starts .
Karamea has another site for camper vans and motorhomes in McCallums Mill Road the old saw mill on the right hand side of the road ..

the camp site is restricted to the large gravel area in front of the old saw mill . There are no facilities , but it is free .
