Travelling in Wales in a campervan is a real bind .

narrow roads every where , in heavy traffic you have to have your direction right .

The roads are narrow , there are few places to actually stop and ending up on a motorway for miles is always a problem . No wonder people really enjoy a campervan trip in New Zealand , plenty of rest stop areas , lots of places to stop and look at a map .

MUST HAVES :

a very good map , GPS , a compas , a navigator beside the driver . Without these essentials in fast moving traffic through the narrow lanes a missed turn can become miles of mistakes . If renting a campervan and paying per milage it is easy to make 20 to 50 kiometers of mistakes per day unless navigation and directions are kept to the most efficient level . 50 kilometers at $1.00 NZD per day is $50.00 of mistakes per day .

The are are lots of camping grounds .  But there must be an eliment of planning , in a long line of traffic the location of the camp ground must be known or else forced by the traffic behind you it is inevitable that you wil miss the drive way then having to travell miles to get back to where you were trying to get to . Local knowledge is of the cause the key and a good map . But again good maps do not turn around and tell the drivers behind you that you need a bit of time to think .So just drive slowly .The average speed is about 40-50 kilometers per hour . May be they are travelling much faster than that it certainly is very advisable to keep cool , making turns into drive ways in fast moving traffic and making sure that the drive way is the correct one is down to the navigators ability to read maps and give directions .Driving and navigating even with GPS is not really ideal .

Every couple of miles the are round abouts with some times six options , sign posted at the top in Welsh and at the bottom in English , if in doubt just keep on driving around untill your navigator has directed you to the correct exit form the round about .There might not be a turning around point for some miles . Often the turning point is very small and very steep . The problem of fast moving traffic and high volumes decreases the more you travel towards the West Coast . Where there are less people , but the roads are just the same design . Larger vehicles should travel mainly on open highways taking to the smaller roads as close as possible to the destination .

There is not much chance really of actual freedom camping as one can do say for example in the USA Australia or New Zealand there is always some one who claims ownership of the space often there is a meter or a charge . It makes New Zealand Australia and the USA a drea to travel in in a campervan .
