The Pencarrow Coastal Trail is one of the best walks in the Wellington region.

The gravel road follows the Wellington harbour entrance coastline from the southern end of Eastbourne to Pencarrow lighthouses (2 hours return), Lake Kohangatera (3 hours return) and Baring Head (4 hours return). Hire bikes at the entrance, if they have any left, or just walk along the easy trail.

Well worth taking the side track (sign-posted) to climb the hill up to the historic Pencarrow lighthouse.

This is one of my absolutely favourite walks in all of Wellington. It's so beautiful, with awesome views of the South Island on a good day. Take a picnic and stop at the lighthouse for something to eat, because it's a good hour each way! But well and truly worth it.

Drive as far as you can out past Days Bay and then get your walking shoes on. Stroll along the easy gravel road next to the sea before branching off up to Pencarrow Lighthouse. If it's sunny then bring your picnic.

Long but flat walk along the edge of the harbor with great views. Make sure you take your sun screen.
