The Pioneer Pie Co. are a family dedicated to crafting the perfect classic Kiwi pie. Each is individually handmade daily ensuring they get the attention they deserve so you get nothing but the holy grail of pies.
There simply isn’t enough room in this text box to list all the flavours, but whether you’re after a staple mince or steak and cheese, or a pie unique to them like their steak and blue vein, mince and kumara, or caramelised pork belly and apple, they’re all in the mix.
Only local ingredients are used, like the finest cuts of meat which are slow-cooked to perfection - steak and mince for 16 hours, and the chicken and pork belly is roasted in the oven bringing out the best in the meat.

Love this cafe. Great little spot to come for brekkie or grab a coffee but once you get inside you will not be able to leave without buying one of their pies. They are made onsite and have perfect flaky pastry and generous chunky fillings with tender meat. Plus they have amazing flavours like steak and blue cheese! There's always a pie of the week on special - you must visit this place. You will not be disappointed!
Best gourmet pies I've ever tasted! All made fresh on site daily, and served with a smile. Albany village makes a great day out: beautiful walks in Kell Park, with playgrounds and ducks to feed; trip to the library; and finish off with a delicious hot pie! The Funky Chicken also caters for functions so I will certainly be using them for my upcoming birthday party as they deliver for free and the menus are very competitively priced. A great cafe in a lovely area; highly reccomend!
