I'm a big fan of tramping, so I love living in a place that offers plenty of opportunity to do so. The DOC managed Pirongia Forest Park is a journey of discovery into the rugged volcanic terrain that makes up a lot of the Waikato. I love being surrounded by its lush greenery and when I'm after something a bit more adventurous, this is one of the sports in the Waikato I head to. It's sort of like the Hilary Trail of the Waikato - love it.

    A gorgeous park in the Waikato spanning from Mt Pirongia to Mt Karioi. Plan an overnight hike to the summit of Pirongia and tent there or book the DOC hut. Best on a clear day when you can see all the way out to Ruapehu and Taranaki! I love hiking- it’s a great way to get my dose of fresh air and nature!
